One of our employees was nice
enough to work with us from her home. Since she is unknowledgeable
in flower care and not a florist we felt this would give our brides a
common ground to see what to expect. These pages will show you how
your flowers will arrive and how they will look. We chose a
variety of flowers and will give tips as we go. We did not force
any open and they sat in a house at 72 degrees with no cooling or
special care for the duration of these pictures.
Day One:
Your flowers arrive! As you
start opening remember, your flowers are tired and thirsty
and need to be treated with care. They are at their
most delicate time.
The Alstroemeria buds
are all closed and will need to be watched to make sure they
open in time.
Bouvardia is
almost all closed these are hard to open and will need some warm
water baths to open them in time.
Freesia will
also need warm water baths to open in time.
Gerbera
daisies come with a cup to guard blooms while in transit.
These will need no special attention after the initial care with
hydration and a warm drink.
If you forgot to purchase the gerbera
sleeves that fit on the stem to support the head, you can use a
thin wire. Piercing the wire through the center of the
bloom and feeding it carefully down the center inside of the
stem about 2" making sure not to let the wire exit though the
stem and stays hidden. Snip the wire as close to the bloom
as you can so the wire is not seen. This will give
the stem extra support that cannot be seen.
Iris can be
deceiving, even though they look hopeless for day three you will
see them open with no special steps to open them. Matter
of fact you will be keeping them cool so they do not open too
fast!
Larkspur will
feel very wilted but no worries just follow our steps and they
will come back beautifully!
Liatris will
need to be misted on the second and third day.
Stargazer
lilies are allot of work! They will need to be warm and
have warm water baths to get them to open in time.
Asiatic lilies
are deceiving they open much faster then the Orientals!
The stamen consists of
two parts the stalk and the anther. The anthers need
to be gently pulled off the stalk as the bloom opens.
If left, a yellowish pollen substance forms on these and
once this happens it stains everything it touches including
the flower, fingers and the wedding dress! So do not
forget this important step.
Lisianthus is
getting to be a very popular wedding flower and easy to open and
care for.
Poms are so
easy! Give them a drink and place them in a cool spot.
When you see
and touch your roses, it will be hard to believe that in a
couple of hours they will be happy again... Guard petals
can be removed just before designing to insure the roses are not
damaged while being moved.
Guard petals are the outside petal that protects the rose.
Gently pull the petal off to show the beautiful bloom
underneath.
Stock is also
easy and fragrant! Keep them close while you are working
and experience the aroma of these beautiful flowers!
Sunflowers -
another easy group! Give them water and keep in a cool
place until the designing day.
These field
tulips have arrived beautifully. These are one flower you
are going to want to keep cool so they do not open! To
help keep them from opening a think wire can be used to pierce
through the stem. First one way pull out and then again in
a crisscross design. Do not leave the wire in. Do not use
floral food on these, just fresh clean water.
This seeded
eucalyptus is beautiful. Greens do not need hydration or
floral food. Just give them clean clear water and they
will be happy. Greens do love to be misted just like your
house plant!
Make sure you
leave plenty of room in the buckets so the flowers can drink and
rest from their trip. It also helps keep damage to a
minimum as you work with your flowers.
Time for the flowers to drink and rest.
A cool dark place is the best for the first night. If they
came in early in the day you may want to check water in the
evening and refill buckets as needed. They will drink
allot of water the first day. Don't forget to mix your
water with floral food per the directions. Click here
