Communicating with flowers became the height of fashion under Queen Victoria, when nineteenth century publishers produced dozens of dictionaries explaining "floriography" as "The Language of Flowers".  Lovers used the guidebooks to gather nosegays, bouquets and Tussie Mussies to give as gifts.
